Update

How to update the Trust template for OpenCart 3 without losing settings: replacing files, the update button in the admin panel, clearing the cache.

2 min read

Updating keeps all template and module settings. It takes a few minutes.

Before updating, back up your files and database. If you edited template files directly, those changes will be overwritten — see “Your own changes”.

How to update

  1. Download the new version

    Download the latest archive from your OCTemplates Support Center account and unpack it.

  2. Replace the files on the server

    Copy the admin, catalog, image and system folders from the upload folder to the site root, replacing files — just like during installation.

  3. Run the update in the admin panel

    Open Extensions → Extensions → Themes and click “Edit” next to Trust OCTemplates. The template detects the new version by itself: a red button with the “Update settings” tooltip appears in the top toolbar. Click it.

  4. Wait until it finishes

    The “Updating Trust” window opens. Don’t close the page — the update takes up to a minute. The template will:

    • check the license and store the new version;
    • add access permissions for new modules;
    • update the database structure;
    • register theme events and apply modifications;
    • clear the cache.
  5. Check the result

    The summary shows which version the template was updated from and to, and what was done. Click “Done — reload the page”, then open the store and reload the page bypassing the browser cache (Ctrl + F5, on Mac — ⌘ + Shift + R).

Your own changes

During an update the template files are replaced, so edits made directly in the files will be lost. To keep your changes:

  • Styles and scripts — add them in the template settings on the “Css - JavaScript” tab, in the “Own CSS code” and “Own JavaScript code” fields. They are stored in the database and survive updates.
  • Changes to templates and controllers — make them as a separate OCMOD modification instead of editing files.

Troubleshooting

The red button doesn’t appear

Make sure the new files were actually uploaded to the server — especially the admin folder. If your hosting uses OPcache, clear it or wait a few minutes.

The storefront looks the same as before

On the template settings page click “Refresh modifications”, then “Clear template cache”, and reload the store page bypassing the browser cache.

An error during the update

Don’t run the update several times in a row. Save the error text or a screenshot and open a ticket with support.
