Information Bar

How to set up the Information Bar in the Trust theme for OpenCart 3: text and image modes, colours, a "Learn more" link, repeat display, cookie.

2 min read

The Information Bar is an announcement at the very top of every page, above the site header. It suits a promotion, delivery terms, holiday opening hours or any other important news. A visitor can close the bar, and it won't appear again until the set period has passed.

Settings

Information Bar settings, Text mode

General

  • Status — a disabled module doesn't show the bar in any language.

Bar type

  • "Text" — a coloured bar with your text and a "Close" button;
  • "Image" — a single full-width banner, optionally clickable.

"Text" mode

The Text is set separately for each site language: formatting, images, lists and links are allowed. If the text is empty for a language, the bar isn't shown in that language, so fill in all active languages.

The "Colours" block defines the look of the bar. A live preview is shown right under the colour settings:

OptionWhat it sets
Information bar background colourThe bar background.
Text colourThe colour of the announcement text.
Link colourApplies to links in the text and to the "Learn more" link.

"Image" mode

Information Bar settings, Image mode

Images are uploaded separately for each language:

  • Image — the banner for computers. Recommended width 2000–2400 px, height 30–100 px. If no image is set for a language, the bar isn't shown in that language.
  • Image for mobiles — optional: a separate banner for screens up to 768 px. Without it phones use the main image.
  • Link — where a click on the banner leads: a full address (https://…) or a path from the site root (for example, /promo). An empty field means the banner is not clickable.
  • Alternative text — an image description for accessibility and search engines.

Behaviour

  • Link to the article — after the text a "Learn more" link to the chosen information page is added. Without a choice the link isn't shown.
  • Number of days — how many days later the bar reappears after the close button is pressed. An integer from 1 to 3650.
  • Cookie value — the name of the cookie the browser records the closing in. Latin letters, digits, "_" and "-" are allowed (up to 64 characters). Change the name to show the bar to all visitors again.

Tip. Started a new promotion but the bar was already closed? Just change the cookie value, for example to oct_information_bar_2: everyone will see the updated announcement.

Where and when the bar is shown

  • Above the header on all site pages for every visitor who hasn't closed it yet.
  • The closing is remembered in a cookie for the set number of days.
  • While the site is in maintenance mode, the bar is not shown.
