Banner +

How to set up Banner + in the Trust theme for OpenCart 3: banner sets, texts, colours, image size, showing in categories and products, adding to a layout.

4 min read

Banner + are small promo banners with a title, a button and a product picture. You can place them anywhere on a page where the layout has a module position: at the top or bottom of the page, in the left or right column. For example, in the blog, categories or on a product page.

Banner in a page column

The look depends on the module position in the layout:

  • top or bottom of the page — banners sit in a row, up to 4;
  • left or right column — banners scroll as a carousel, one at a time, with arrows.

The setup has two parts: a banner set (what to show) and a module (where and at what size to show it).

Open Octemplates → Banners → Banner +. This is where banner sets are stored. One set can be shown in several modules.

Banner sets list

Click "Add" to create a set, or the pencil to edit an existing one. In the set specify a name (only you see it, 3 to 64 characters) and a status: a disabled set isn't shown on the site even if the module is enabled.

Banners in a set

On the "Banners" tab, on the left is the list of banners with thumbnails (up to 4 per set), on the right the editor of the selected one. The "Add banner" button creates a new one.

Banner editor

Texts and links are filled in separately for each language, the image is shared.

FieldDescription
Title2 to 64 characters, required for every language.
Button textA small outline button under the title. Optional: the whole banner is clickable.
LinkWhere a click on the banner leads: a product, category or promotion page.
ImageShown to the right of the text at the size from the module settings. PNG or WebP with a transparent background works best. A banner without an image is not shown.

Colours

Match the colours to the image so the text stays readable: Banner background, Text colour (and description), and the button colour. The button is an outline: its colour sets the border and text, and on hover becomes the background; the hover text colour is set separately. Without a button colour the theme's standard button is shown.

At the bottom of the editor are the sort order (lower number comes first) and the "Remove banner" button. Removal takes effect after saving.

The module on the site

For a set to appear on the site, it has to be connected through a module. Open Extensions → Extensions → Modules, find "Octemplates - Banner +" and add a new module (or edit an existing one).

Banner + module settings

General

  • Module name — only you see it, it is how the module is called in the modules list and layouts.
  • Banner set — pick the set created above. Next to it is a "Manage banners" link.
  • Status — a disabled module isn't shown on the site.

Image size

Width × height — each banner's image is scaled to this size and shown to the right of the text.

Where to show

Leave both lists empty to show the banner everywhere the module is added to a layout. Or limit it:

  • Show in categories — the banner is shown only on pages of the selected categories, not on other pages. This choice is ignored on product pages. There is a search and "Select all" / "Clear" buttons.
  • Show in products — on product pages the banner is shown only for the selected ones. Start typing a product name and pick from the list. If no categories are selected, the banner won't appear on other pages.

Add the module to a layout

After saving, go to Design → Layouts, open the layout you need (category, product, blog and so on) and add the module to a position: top, bottom, left or right column. Without this step the banner will not appear on the site.

Tip. Create several modules with different sets and sizes: for example, wide banners for the top of categories and a compact carousel for the blog column.
