Newsletter Subscription

How to set up Newsletter Subscription in the Trust theme for OpenCart 3: popup, footer form, confirmation emails, subscribers list and CSV export.

3 min read

The subscription collects a base of email addresses for news and promo mailings. A visitor can subscribe in a popup that appears after a set time, or in the footer form. To become an active subscriber, the address has to be confirmed via a link in an email.

Newsletter subscription popup

Open Octemplates → Modules → Subscribe & settings.

Settings

Newsletter Subscription settings

General

  • Status — the main switch. When disabled, the module shows neither the popup nor the footer form and accepts no new subscriptions. The footer form is additionally enabled in the theme settings.
  • Show popup — turn it off to keep the subscription in the footer only.
  • Do not show again for — how many days the popup won't appear again. The count starts at the first display, even if the visitor closed the popup without entering anything. An integer from 1 to 3650.
  • Display delay — how many milliseconds after the page opens the popup appears: 1000 ms is 1 second, 15000 ms is 15 seconds.
  • Popup image — shown above the email field, recommended size 390×290 px. With no image the popup has no picture.

Promo text

A subtitle under the popup title, separate for each language. Briefly describe the benefit of subscribing: a discount, news, promotions. If nothing is set for a language, there is no subtitle.

Tip. Don't set the delay too short: a popup that appears instantly is annoying. 10–20 seconds and showing once every few days is a calm option.

Subscriber emails

Subscription email templates

A subscriber gets two emails: the first right after subscribing (with a confirmation link), the second after confirmation. While "Custom email templates" is off, standard emails from the store language file are sent.

To write your own, turn the switch on and fill in the subject and text of both emails for each language:

EmailRequired shortcode
Subscription confirmation email{approve_link} — the confirmation link. Without it the subscription can't be confirmed.
Email after confirmation{unsubscribe_link} — the unsubscribe link (add it).

Subscribers

The "Subscribers" tab lists all addresses. At the top are counters: total subscribers, awaiting confirmation and confirmed. You can search by email, IP and date.

Subscribers list

  • E-Mail, IP and the date added;
  • Status — "Pending" or "Confirmed". A subscriber becomes active after following the link in the email;
  • the "Confirm" button — confirm manually (the subscriber gets the standard confirmation email);
  • "Confirm selected" and "Delete selected" — actions on several addresses;
  • "Export subscribers" — export to CSV. Only confirmed subscribers go into the file.

Subscription form in the footer

The email field in the footer works the same way: after submitting, a confirmation email arrives. If a terms page is set in the store settings, consent to it is also required to subscribe.

How it works

  1. Subscription

    The visitor enters an email in the popup or in the footer.

  2. Confirmation

    They receive an email with a link. After following it, the subscription is confirmed.

  3. Second email

    The subscriber gets a thank-you email with an unsubscribe link.
