How to set up the catalog mega menu, custom menu items with banners, and header and footer links in the Trust template for OpenCart 3.

4 min read

Trust has three menus: the catalog mega menu, header links and footer links. All of them are set up in Octemplates → Trust OCTemplates - template settings, the “Settings” → “Menu settings” tab.

Mega menu

The mega menu is the main catalog menu in the header. It comes in two kinds, and a store can use both:

  • vertical — a drop-down menu behind the “Catalog” button;
  • horizontal — a row of items in the header.

Your own menu items

Besides categories, you can add your own items to the mega menu: a selection of categories, brands, blog sections or a simple link — for example “Sale” or “Delivery”.

  1. Add an item

    In the “Menu items” block click “Add new item”.

  2. Choose the type and placement

    On the “Data” tab set:

    • Item type — “Selected categories”, “Selected manufacturers”, “Selected blog categories” or “Simple link”;
    • Where to display? — vertical or horizontal menu;
    • which stores and customer groups see the item.

Item options by type

TypeOptions
Selected categoriesCategories to show; Main category — if selected, the item links to it; showing subcategories and images, their width and height, limit, list or grid view.
Selected manufacturersBrands to show; images, width and height; view — list or grid (logo tiles across the full menu width).
Selected blog categoriesBlog sections to show.
Simple linkThe link from the “Localization” tab and, if needed, nested links — sub-items with a title, URL and sort order.

Every type also has:

  • Menu item icon;
  • Sort order — the item position in the menu;
  • Open in new tab;
  • Accent item — in the horizontal menu it is a highlighted accent-colored button (handy for “Sale”), in the vertical menu — an accent-colored link.

Each item can have a banner shown to the right of the subcategories in the drop-down menu. If the banner is off, subcategories take the full width.

Menu banner settings

  • Image — a square from 400×400 px;
  • Title, Text, Button text and Link;
  • Colors: banner background and text color — match them to the image so the text is easy to read;
  • Button: button color and text color on hover. The button is outlined: its color sets the border and text and becomes the background on hover. Without a color, the standard theme button is shown.

On the “Header” tab add links shown in the header: “Delivery”, “Payment”, “Contacts” and so on. Set the title and URL for each language. To add an information page quickly, start typing its name in the “Links to info page” field — the URL is filled in automatically.

On the “Footer” tab:

  • add your own links the same way as for the header;
  • turn on the standard OpenCart links: contact, returns, sitemap, manufacturers, gift certificates, specials;
  • in “Links to selected categories” choose categories for a separate footer column.
