404 Page

How to set up the "Not found" (404) page in the Trust theme for OpenCart 3: heading and text for each language, an image, modules at the top and bottom of the page.

2 min read

The 404 page is shown to a visitor who opened an address that doesn't exist on the site: a deleted product, a mistake in a link, an outdated bookmark. Instead of a dead end you can explain what happened and suggest where to go next: the home page, search, popular products or categories.

The 404 page on the site

The store serves this page with the 404 status code, so search engines understand the address doesn't exist.

Open Octemplates → Modules → Page 404.

Heading, text and image

404 page settings: heading, text, image

General

  • Status — a disabled module doesn't change the 404 page: the standard heading and text from the theme language files are shown.

Heading and text

They are set separately for each site language. For a language with empty fields the theme's standard text is shown.

  • Page heading — the large heading on the 404 page. It also goes into the browser tab title. If empty — the standard one.
  • Text — an explanation under the heading: where to go next, what to do. If empty — the standard text.

Image

The picture of the 404 page. Recommended width up to 360 px, format SVG, PNG or WebP. If no image is chosen, the theme's standard illustration (a plug and a socket) is shown on the page, as in the screenshot above.

Modules on the page

The "Page 404 layout" tab lets you output any store modules above and below the message block. For example, popular products or categories so the visitor doesn't leave the site.

404 page layout: modules at the top and bottom

  • The "At the top of the page" block holds modules above the message, the "At the bottom of the page" block — below it.
  • Pick a module in the list and click the "+" button on the right. The pencil next to it opens that module's settings, the minus removes it from the page.
  • The order of modules on the page is the same as in the list.

Tip. Add the Category Wall and a selection of popular products at the bottom of the page: the visitor immediately sees where to go and doesn't leave the site.
