Cookie Policy

How to set up the Cookie Policy notice in the Trust theme for OpenCart 3: text for each language, the "Learn more" link, repeat display period, cookie name.

Most sites use cookies, and visitors, especially from Europe, have to be informed about it. The module shows a compact notice at the bottom of the screen with your text, a "Learn more" link (for example, to the privacy policy) and an "Accept" button. After the click the browser remembers the choice, and the notice doesn't appear until the set number of days has passed.

General

  • Status — a disabled module doesn't show the notice in any language.

Notice text

Set separately for each site language. It is plain text without formatting: HTML tags are removed on the site. If the text is empty for a language, the notice isn't shown in that language, so fill in all active languages.

Behaviour

  • "Learn more" link — after the text a "Learn more" link to the chosen information page is added (for example, the privacy policy). Without a choice the link isn't shown. The link label and the "Accept" button come from the theme language files.
  • Show again after — how many days later the notice reappears after "Accept" is pressed. If left empty — 365 days. An integer from 1 to 3650.
  • Cookie name — the name of the cookie the browser records the consent in. Latin letters, digits, "_" and "-" are allowed (up to 64 characters). Change the name to show the notice to all visitors again, even those who have already accepted it.

Tip. Updated your privacy policy? Change the cookie name, for example to oct_policy_2: all visitors will see the notice and confirm consent to the new version.

Where and when the notice is shown

  • At the bottom of the screen for every visitor who hasn't accepted cookies yet.
  • The consent is stored in a cookie for the set number of days.
  • While the site is in maintenance mode, the notice is not shown.

Important. The notice only informs about cookies and remembers the consent. It does not block analytics or advertising scripts until "Accept" is pressed. If the law of your country requires prior consent, set that up separately.
